Baseboard is the trim that runs along the bottom of a wall where it meets the floor; it covers the gap at the floor and takes the knocks from feet, vacuums and furniture. Baseboard Moulding: questions
How much baseboard do I need?
Measure every wall or opening you are trimming, add the lengths together and add about 10% for cuts and miters, then divide by the piece length (16' and 17') and round up. You can also text your store a footage list or a floor plan, and they will count it out and send a quote.
What size baseboard should I use?
Baseboard here runs from 3-1/4" to 11-1/4" tall. Taller baseboard suits taller ceilings and larger rooms; the size guide above lists every height with its price per foot, so you can compare before you visit.
How much does baseboard cost per foot?
From $0.73 per foot to $2.49 per foot, sold by the piece. The price per foot is the piece price divided by its length: for example, the 1/2" x 3-1/4" S3S board is $12.64 for 16', or $0.79 per foot; WM623 is $11.68 for 16', or $0.73 per foot. The size guide above lists every one.
What size is a 1x4, 1x6, 1x8 and 1x12?
Trim boards are named by their rough size and milled smaller. A 1x4 is 3-1/2" wide, a 1x6 is 5-1/2" wide, a 1x8 is 7-1/4" wide and a 1x12 is 11-1/4" wide. Thickness is 1/2", 9/16" and 11/16"; each product's exact size is in the size guide above.
Can you match my existing trim?
Text your store a photo of the profile with a tape measure across it, or bring a short piece in. The baseboard profiles here are WM623, WM620, WM618, WM5180, L163ER and 5204A; if yours isn't, the store can check whether it can be special ordered, usually ready in about 6 days.
Finger-joint pine or MDF: which should I buy?
Both are painted after they go up. Finger-joint pine is real pine, short pieces glued end to end, so it holds nails well and takes knocks and some moisture. MDF is a smooth, dense fiberboard with no grain to show through paint and usually costs less, but it swells if it gets wet, so keep it out of bathrooms, basements and floors that are mopped often.
Is the baseboard primed?
Yes, every one here comes primed, ready for paint: caulk the joints, fill the nail holes and paint.
